April 2008

We have almost completed the research phase for the 3rd Edition of Successful Restaurant Design and have identified over 70 design firms and 120 restaurant projects that may become part of the 3rd edition of SRD.  Thanks to those design firms who have contacted us directly. We have begun contacting design/architectural firms and restaurants who we have identified through recommendations, and information gleaned from the Web and trade press.

As with any project, we will continue to look at new design/architecture firms and restaurants right up to the time that we submit our manuscript. If you are a designer/architect or a restaurateur who would like to be considered for inclusion in the 3rd Edition of Successful Restaurant Design please drop us a line.  jfdurocher@comcast.net

We are looking for input in the following two chapters:

Mini-Cases-

These cases will be culled from hundreds of examples to demonstrate the diversity of problem solving involved with restaurant design. However, the design of a restaurant does not begin with the reinvention of the wheel. Good design follows basic principles, and good designers and restaurateurs learn from experience.

In each of the cases, challenges faced by the design team and an explanation of the solutions they created are presented. While each can be studied individually, it is interesting to note that a number of challenges were common to several designs.

Speak Out on Design-

As with the mini-cases, we are looking for designers and operators with a special perspective on design and the role that design can play in the success of a restaurant. The interviews will be conducted in a Q&A format.
